It gives me great pleasure to share with you some of the outcomes of our “ambitious tour” with leading equality teacher, Dr Michael Kimmel.
Our aspiration for #KimmelTalks 2016 was to leverage Michael’s message and cause a systemic shift towards gender equality in Australia’s workplaces. To do this, we felt it was important that Michael engage those both within and beyond our corporate community, including not-for-profits, entrepreneurs, educators, the arts and government. While it is too soon to know the full impact of our cross-sector collaboration, I have no doubt that we cast our stones into the right ponds, the ripples from which will be felt well into the future.
Throughout his one week Sydney tour in May, Michael contributed to:
- Four public events including our own Gathering Men, a panel discussion at Sydney Writers’ Festival, an Entrepreneur’s Gender Equality panel and notably he took the to the main stage of the Opera House at TEDxSydney.
- A series of internal/industry events and consultations within the #KimmelTalks Collaborative Cohort, which was spearheaded by Lendlease, KPMG Australia and the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.
- Conversations with fellow academics and important gender equity stakeholders including Australia’s newly-appointed Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Kate Jenkins.
- Multiple media interviews the highlights of which include TV appearances on Lateline and Weekend Sunrise. And still to come, his lessons will be the feature article in the Weekend Australian Magazine this Saturday, 11 June 2016. All relevant articles and interviews, during and leading up to his tour, can be accessed via our Gathering Men Web Page.
